Learn to Play F on Guitar in our FREE Beginner Chord Lesson for Beginners Online

In this FREE guitar chord lesson, you will learn how to play F on guitar. For beginners on the guitar F can be a little more difficult but nothing we can't handle. Just follow the instructions indicated on the chart and photos below where I've given you a demonstration of everything you need to know regarding proper finger position as well as strumming instructions.

F major on guitar is one of the 15 basic chords that every beginner must learn and just so you'll be prepared; you will be using your first finger to cover two strings which throws some of my students a curve but there's no time like the present, so let's go.

To play the F on guitar you will place your:

1st finger (index finger) on BOTH the first (1st) and the second (2nd) string in the first (1st) fret

2nd finger (middle finger) on the third (3rd) string in the second (2nd) fret

3rd finger (ring finger) on the fourth (4th) string in the third (3rd) fret

If you are a beginner, this is probably the first time you've had to use one of your fingers to press two strings, but don't worry; it gets easier and I've given you a demonstration of correct finger position to chord F on the guitar's neck in the following picture.

Notice how I've laid my index finger flat to cover the first and second string.

To play an F on guitar you will strike the first four (4) strings of the guitar, from the first string to the forth leaving only the fifth and sixth strings untouched as you will see from the two RED "X" graphics over the last two strings in the above diagram.

Practice strumming across the 4 designated strings evenly with your fingers in correct position as demonstrated in the above photo and you will be able to mark the guitar F chord off your list of stuff that Easy Guitar Guy requires you to learn before he introduces you to the good stuff.

Speaking of what Easy Guitar Guy wants you to learn, you should learn to play the E chord, the A chord and the D chord before you start to practice any others.
